Year 8 Residential to Manchester

Wednesday 22 June

0830
Assemble in the Sports Hall with your luggage to be registered.  We will then leave school and walk down to meet the coaches at the Botanical Gardens.

You must board the coach you have been allocated (see coach/travel groups list) making sure that you put your luggage next to the correct coach.

It is your responsibility to watch your luggage being loaded on to the coach before you get on yourself.

You will need to bring a packed lunch/drink (in small rucksack/bag) for our day at Quarry Bank Mill.

After a day of History activities at Quarry Bank Mill, we will make our way to Manchester on the coaches. We will check in at Manchester Youth Hostel and have a safety briefing.

It is extremely important that when you go to your room you check that everything is in order and that there is no damage. If you have any concerns, you must report them to your member of staff – we do not want to be charged for any damage we have not caused.

Dinner and then activities in the hostel.

Thursday 23 June
0700-0730
Wake-up

0730-0800
Breakfast at the hostel.

0900-0915
Be ready to leave to catch the tram to Salford Quays.

1000-1200
Art workshop in two groups at The Lowry followed by lunch at Salford Quays.

In time for 1330
Walk to Old Trafford to experience one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world!

1630
Leave Old Trafford to walk to the tram stop and return to the Youth Hostel.

1800 and 1830
Dinner in two sittings – at 6.00pm and 6.30pm.

Evening
Cinema visit TBA

Friday 24 June
0730
Wake up

0745 and 0815
Breakfast then pack.

0900
Leave the Youth Hostel and set off for Buxton.  We will spend the day at Oaklands Manor doing some bush craft activities.

1430
Leave Oaklands Manor, aiming to arrive back at school for 3.30pm.

If you have a chance, do have a look at the websites for the attractions we are visiting so that you know what to expect and can make a point of looking out for things that really interest you.





 
Suggested Clothing List (All items should be named).
Do check the weather forecast before the trip but pack light and consider bringing:
  • A soft holdall type bag or very small cabin size bag
  • Comfortable walking boots/trainers
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket
  • Nightwear
  • Toilet bag- toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, hairbrush, tissues, personal medication and a towel. (You may hand in medication to Ms Thorneloe/Mrs Strong if you wish)
  • Jumper/sweatshirt
  • Two changes of underwear and socks
  • Tops/shirts/trousers/skirts – depending on what you wish to wear. Trousers/leggings/ are recommended for Friday’s activities
  • High factor sun cream/sun block
  • Hat/cap
  • Watch
  • A suitable rucksack/small bag to take out for each day with all your requirements in it. Please make sure it has a zippable pocket/compartment for your money/valuables
  • Cameras/phones are taken at students’ own risk


Spending Money
You will need to bring money a small amount of spending money for drinks, snacks and souvenirs on the Thursday.


You will be responsible for looking after your money all the time

  •  You have already signed the Code of Conduct form which stipulates behaviour expectations. It is, however, important to be aware of the following so that we can all have a really enjoyable trip J
  • On departure, you will be given a panic card which has your name, school and emergency contact numbers on it. You are expected to carry your panic card in your wallet/purse at all times.
  • Please remember that you are ambassadors for the school and should conduct yourself in a way that makes you, your parents and the school proud. You will be mixing with the general public so please make sure that any comments they make about you are favourable- thank you
  • Please make sure that you keep your valuables in a zipped pocket/compartment of a bag and check when leaving any shop/attraction that you still have them. Be aware at all times!

Hostel
Please follow instructions carefully when checking in.

Please be respectful of each other and each other's belongings and of other people in the hostel.

Remember – only members of SHS are allowed in your rooms.

The Lowry and Old Trafford
It is imperative that you listen and follow instructions issued by the guides or your teachers. This is for your safety as well as common courtesy. We want you to get the most out of the trip.
